Registration opens for Newbery Quiz Bowl

Students in grades four to seven can join the Kaillua-Kona Public Library’s first-ever Newbery Quiz Bowl team starting today.

The Newbery Quiz Bowl is an annual reading competition unique to Hawaii island. Students are eligible to form quiz bowl teams to represent their school or library in the competition. Team members are expected to read selected Newbery Award-winning books, and answer questions about the books. Students must know answers, such as the author, title, main character, and important events of selected books.

Those interested must registered by Sept. 30 by filling out a registration card in the Children’s Section, and turning it in to library staff.

The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries, Kona. Contact the hosting library 15 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
